Frequently asked questions
The price depends on the material, the area to be coated, the quantity, the RAL shade and whether extra preparation is needed. Send the dimensions and the quantity through the enquiry form and you will get a firm quotation.
The oven is 7.5 metres long and its opening is 2.2 × 2.2 metres, so we take parts up to those dimensions. That covers façade and joinery profiles at full length with no cutting, and bulky pieces that fit a 2.2 × 2.2 m cross-section.
Most often aluminium and galvanised steel, and mild steel after suitable preparation. The material has to conduct electricity and take the curing temperature.
The RAL Classic chart has 213 shades and all of them can be done. Shades not held in stock are ordered from the supplier, so the lead time is a little longer. Alongside smooth finishes there are textured and metallic shades.
It is not, and you should allow for that. RAL is a physical standard defined by a sample. The shades on this site are approximate and depend on your monitor. Before a final decision compare against a RAL fan deck or ask for a sample.
If it is already powder coated — yes, a sound old powder layer is a good base. If it was painted with liquid (wet) paint — not until that is stripped, because it lets go at curing temperature and the new film has nothing to grip. Tell us in advance what the part was painted with.
Not necessarily. We offer a zinc primer as the base for powder coating: a zinc-rich layer applied before the powder, which in many cases is an adequate substitute for hot-dip or electro-galvanising. Both layers are done here, so the part does not travel to a galvaniser. Tell us where the part will stand and we will say whether it is the right choice for it.
It depends on the pre-treatment, the coating thickness, the choice of powder and where the part stands. Our pre-treatment of aluminium is tested at 1000 hours in a salt spray chamber, which is the level asked for in architectural use.
By washing regularly with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. No abrasives, solvents or wire brushes — they damage the film and shorten its life.
Assemblies with plastic, seals or electronics have to be stripped down before treatment. Agree in advance who does that.
