Materials we powder coat
Aluminium and galvanised steel are the most common — the materials that, with correct pre-treatment, give the longest film life.

Materials
Aluminium
The most common material in our plant. Light, it does not rust and it takes powder well after chemical pre-treatment. Profiles, panels and sheet parts for construction and industry.

Galvanised steel
The zinc protects the base metal, the powder protects the zinc and gives it colour. A combination used where both mechanical strength and long-term outdoor protection are needed.

Steel
Mild steel is powder coated after suitable surface preparation. For parts used indoors the chemical pre-treatment is enough; for anything that goes outdoors we offer a zinc primer under the powder — in many cases an adequate substitute for hot-dip or electro-galvanising.

Pre-treatment differs by material
Aluminium and steel do not have the same problem. Aluminium has an oxide layer that has to be removed and replaced with a controlled conversion coating. Galvanised steel has zinc, which protects on its own but calls for careful pre-treatment for the powder to adhere well. That is why pre-treatment is not the same for everything that comes into the plant.
What cannot be powder coated
- Materials that do not conduct electricity — plastic, wood, glass
- Parts that cannot take the curing temperature
- Assemblies with built-in electronics, seals or plastic parts
- Surfaces painted with liquid (wet) paint, until it is stripped — over an old powder coating is fine
If you are not sure whether your part is suitable, send a photograph with your enquiry — it is quicker than describing it.
